Too many students believe they can push cruise control after being accepted to college. This is a common misconception that we aim to debunk in this conversation and in the work we are both passionate about. In this episode, Linnita Hosten and I discuss the challenges associated with not having a plan and the benefits of having a solid college strategy, not only up to receiving that acceptance letter, but in the years that follow up to and into your work of choice. In her new book, The College Strategy, she sprinkles her keen observations and practical tips and approaches for college success with her personal experiences in college. What I love most about our conversation is her honesty and willingness to share some of the hard lessons she learned during her college tenure and how she used them as stepping stones to get where and what she wanted.
I met Linnita earlier this year in July at the Atlanta Glow Leadership Conference for Women, a not for profit organization dedicated to encouraging, educating and equipping young, low-income women to be thriving, self-sustaining leaders and effective agents of economic growth within their communities. They also offer free mentoring, workshops, and college/career prep assistance to this population of young women between 14-25 years old. For more info about Atlanta Glow, visit atlantaglow.org.
Here are just a few of the many student success tips she shares during our chat:
